LoRa je zjednodušeně bychom mohli tento systém popsat jako propojení jednotlivých zařízení prostřednictvím internetu. Principem je sběr dat z různých čidel, která jsou následně sdílena prostřednictvím internetu za účelem dalšího zpracování a vyhodnocování.
Technologie LoRa navíc umožňuje sběr dat z čidel bez přímého připojení k internetu a aktivního napájení. Čidla v pravidelných intervalech odesílají bezdrátově data do sítě LoRa, kde dochází ke zpracování dat, až po výsledné zobrazení a notifikace přes internet.
Díky nízké spotřebě energie je provoz čidel možný na baterie po dobu 5 až 10 let.
